Xaranna Tented Camp
Luxury Tented Accommodation ... Activities on offer at Xaranna are game drives, mekoros, boating and guided walks. ...
Xaranna Camp is located in the Ranns Concession to the southeast of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
This very high specification camp has nine large tents each with plunge pool and lounge. Public areas are similarly lavish. Access is by light aircraft, usual stay duration 3 nights and main activities are day and night vehicle game-viewing, walking and mokoro canoe safari.
Xaranna competes pretty well with other super-luxury delta camps such as Xudum, Vumbura Plains and Jao Camp, although all these fall well short of the more expensive and fabulous Mombo
Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge - Okavango Delta Safari Reserves, Botswana
Read 1 traveller review of Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge
Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge is a 'sleek' new safari lodge, which opened in late 2008 on the site of a much older camp, Rann's Camp. None of our team has visited the new incarnation of this lodge personally yet, in its all-new incarnation, but from its owners we're told the following:
“Xaranna Lodge has nine sleek en suite safari tents with breathtaking views over the channel. Each tented, air-conditioned suite also boasts a romantic sala with a private plunge pools (completed for Jan 2009).
The guest areas of Xaranna Okavango Lodge are all positioned carefully to maximise the sweeping views out across the channels, with classic Delta tree line silhouettes. The intimate guest sitting area boasts a spacious reading area, perfect for afternoon relaxation. The innovative dining area features shady verandas overlooking the channels of the Delta. A fully-stocked Safari Shop offers chic safari gear, African art and jewellery.
Activities available from Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge include 4WD game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, boating and mekoro (traditional dugout canoe) adventures in the Okavango Delta, and guided walks.
Although we have not yet visited Xaranna, based on our experience of its sister camps – Nxabega Safari Camp and Sandibe Safari Lodge – we would expect the quality of the accommodation and guiding here to be very high.
At the same time that Xaranna was built, there's another new camp in this area, Xudum Delta Lodge. It has also been built and is being run by “&Beyond” (which the new name for 'The Conservation Corporation Africa' – or 'CC Africa').
As with Xudum, we expect Xaranna Lodge to be high-spec and very carefully-crafted camp set in a very lovely area of the Okavango Delta. However, our visits in the past to this area has taught us that although there is a variety of wildlife to be seen here, this area has never historically been purely a game viewing destination.
We do not recommend that you come to Xaranna Delta Lodge to search out big game, but instead come for the chance to explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta; for its spectacular birdlife and for its smaller creatures such as the pretty painted reed frogs.

Camp Description
Superb game viewing and water activities are available throughout the year. The Okavango has hot, wet summers (October to April) and dry, cool winters (May to September). March to May is beautiful, as the vegetation turns green after the summer rains and many species of wild flower come into bloom. The Okavango Delta is generally at its highest flood levels from June to August. Daytime temperatures range between 24°C / 75°F and 27°C / 81°F, lowering to approximately 6°C / 43°F at night. September to December tends to be dry and hot, with an average temperature of 35°C / 95°F.
