Title

Intoduction

Location: Situated in a game rich private concession on the border of Moremi Game Reserve. Our photographic concession area share almost the entire southern land boundary of the Moremi, an integral part of your Botswana safari.

Getting there: Guests can transfer by road (2 1/2 hrs) or air (15min) from Maun which quickly brings you into game territory and some wonderful animal sightings.

The ecosystem: The south western corner of the concession enjoys seasonal flooding when the Gomoti River receives its flood from the upper reaches of the Okavango Delta. These waters transform the otherwise dry savannah woodlands into vast areas of inundated floodplains. These wet land and savannah areas provide ideal habitat for an incredible variety of animal and bird species.

Activities: Santawani is big-game territory with regular sightings of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra and other plains game. The area is also home to the endangered African wild dog, and other seldom seen species like cheetah. Birding enthusiast can expect to see many species permanently found in the area, together with migrants and aquatic species which follow the flood waters. Activities include game drives, night drives, optional full day mokoro (dugout canoe) or power boat excursions into the Okavango Delta.

Accommodation: Six newly completed brick and thatch en-suite chalets. Each spacious and well appointed chalet has two three quarter beds, en-suite shower and toilet, electric lighting and facilities for recharging video batteries.

The lodge: Open to the soothing African breezes, the bar and restaurant over look our water hole and offer excellent cuisine and ambience….. in cool shady surroundings.

Local culture: For those visitors seeking a more in-depth African experience, enquire about our cultural visits and enjoy traditional Bayei (River Bushman), Basubya, Banajwa and Barotse hospitality, culture and cuisine.

The Essence of Santawani: Outstanding hospitality, cuisine and game viewing opportunities within a short distance from Maun, gateway to the Okavango Delta.

Friends of the Sankuyo Trust: Funding for Santawani Lodge has been made possible by the donor agencies, African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and African Development Foundation (ADF).
AWF has assisted with the phase one development of Santawani Lodge and ADF will be helping the community develop their resource in the second stage.
