Location

Moremi Game Reserve covers some 4871 sq.kms
- located in the eastern section of the Okavango
delta

 

Geography: Moremi has been described as one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa

It's wide diversity of habitat combines mopane woodland and acacia forests with floodplains and lagoons

 

Road Conditions : All roads within Moremi require 4 x 4 drive vehicles

 

Getting There : by air with daily flights from Johannesbug to Maun with charter flights to Moremi.

Wildlife : is plentiful with elephants, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyeana, jackal as well as large and
small antelope.

Bird species : Moremi is probably one of the best places to see the rare Wattled Crane and the African Skimmer.

Look for raptors along the Khwai river and for herons the Gcadikwe lagoon is a must do.

If visiting Moremi during September to February then the bird enthusiast will be well rewarded by the migrants in the delta.

Accommodation : There are camping sites inside Moremi as well as a number of luxury camps. Camping sites in Moremi offer basic facilities such as water, toilets and showers.
Booking in advance is essential

Visiting times: best time is during the dry season when game viewing is as its peak from July to October.

During this time the seasonal pans have dried up
and wildlife concentrates at permanent watering holes.

May to August are the winter months - the days are warm but the nights can get cold.
From October onwards until the rains arrive the
weather can be extremely hot

Health: Visitors are strongly advised to take anti malaria prophylactics before, during and after their visit to this park. Drinking water should be boiled or chemically treated.

Facilities: there are no fuel supplies in Moremi with the closest garage being at Maun.

There are no food supplies available in the reserve with a limited range of goods in the Khwai village. Visitors should be self sufficient and carry plenty of water for personal use

Places of Interest

Third Bridge - excellent birdlife, game is plentiful.
Chief's Island - possibly the best game viewing in the delta.
Khwai Flood Plain - good birdlife
Dombo Hippo Pools
Mboma Island - good opportunity to do a mokoro boat trip through the heart of the delta
