Caprivi
has 2 of the five permanently flowing rivers in Namibia - namely
the Zambezi and the Kwando.
In years of heavy rainfall these rivers will flood over extensive
areas.
One third is in fact a floodplain.
The Caprivi offers year round angling with approx. 130 kms of
unrestricted fishing water from Katima Mulilo to Impalila island.
As well as the infamous Tigerfish other species includes Nembwe,
Humpback and Thinface Largemouth bream, 3 spot bream, Redbreast,
Green and Pink bream.
The Sesheke Bridge between Namibia and Zimbabwe was opened during
2004 - completing the 2100kms TransCaprivi Highway to link the
port of Walvis Bay with the Zambian capital Lusaka.
During the dry winter months large herds of elephant sand buffalo
are known to congregate along the Kwando, Zambezi and Chobe river
corridors. Most rainfalls in summer, peaking in January
and February.
Hottest months are September, October and November.
The Caprivi is also home to over 400 bird species including Rosy
throated Long Claw, the migrant African Skimmer, the rare Sousa
Shrike and Shelley Sunbird. |
