Bwabwata National Park Caprivi Namibia

formerly the Caprivi Game Park, extending from the Okavango river in the west to the Kwando river in the east with the Chobe and Zambezi rivers forming the north east and south east boundaries

Location
located between Angola and Botswana extending 180km east from the Okavango river in the west, to the Kwando river in the east

Geography

the park extends some 32 km wide and is 5715 sq. kms.
A flat area covered by mixed forests (wild syringa, copalwood, Zambezi teak, wild teak)

 

Getting There

Travel along the main B8 road the park can be entered at Bagani (western check point about 200 kms from Rundu).

Travelling from the east at Kongola, the road passes through the reserve

Wildlife

includes elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, and roan
and other antelopes

Bird species

339 bird species have been recorded in this region including squacco, longtoed plovers, western banded snake eagles, lesser blue-eared starlings, Dickinson's kestrels, bateleur, fish eagle,pygmy goose, lesser jacana, purplebanded sunbird

Accommodation

Bumhill Campsite (no electricity).
Drinking water is not available, but water for washing is.
There are also 3 exclusive sites with en suite facilities
(toilet, washbasin and hot shower) and private braai area.

These sites also offer a 3m high deck overlooking the river

The park is located within a high risk malaria area.

Visitors are advised to take the necessary precautions
