Mamili National Park Caprivi Namibia

Namibia's equivalent of the Okavango delta, Mamili is a large wetland conservation area
on the Kwando river

Location

this 320 sq. kms park is Mamili is centered on the Nkasa and Lupala islands on the Kwando and Linyanti rivers in the south-western corner of East Caprivi

Geography

The area has the largest wetland area with reed beds, oxbow lakes and tree-covered islands and two large islands in the Kwando/Linyanti River

Getting There

During the rainy season large parts of Mamili are flooded and cannot be accessed.

Even in the dry season you should attempt this area only in a convoy of at least two vehicles

Accommodation - Very rudimentary camping sites

Facilities - Visitors have to be completely self-sufficient in terms of water, food and fuel

Visiting Times - between September and April

Bird species - over 430 bird species have been recorded here including

squacco, longtoed plovers, western bandedsnake eagles, lesser blue-eared starlings, Dickinson's kestrels, bateleur, fish eagle,pygmy goose, lesser jacana, purplebanded sunbird,African golden oriole, Schalow's lourie,whitecrowned plover, rock pratincole
