Getting
to the Falls
The Ngonye Falls are a short walk from the road,
about 120km as the crow flies from Sesheke,
and 57km southeast of the Sitoti Ferry.
First stop at the National Parks Office at Ngonye
(GPS:NPSIOM), which is clearly marked beside
the road.
Here you can pay the entry fees, leave your
vehicle safely, and find a guide to take you
down to the falls themselves. |

Ngonye
(Sioma Falls)
Ngonye falls mark the transition point of the
Zambezi Rivers’ flow from Kalahari sand floodplain
to basalt dyke - the latter eventually contributing
to the magnificent gorges of the Victoria Falls.
The falls are horseshoe-shaped and spectacular
because of the sheer volume of water that cascades
over the staggered twenty metre drop.
Of note is that the river flows underneath the rock
on either side of the falls.
It’s quite an experience to stand on them, feeling
and hearing the underground flow.
Directly below the falls are a series of rapids that
make for a good day’s white-water rafting |
