Victoria Falls

Without doubt, Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

1.7km wide before taking a 100m headlong plunge into the frothy chasm of the gorge below.

This is the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Although it's fame has spread far and wide, its natural surroundings have been left unspoilt.

Visitors can gaze at the Mighty Zambezi as it flows, broad and placid, to the brink of a basalt lip for almost it's entire length

Although water levels vary, Victoria Falls are impressive year-round.

  • Between February and April, when the Zambezi reaches peak flood, the clouds of spray rising from the waterfall are spectacular from the air - but close-up views on foot are often obscured.
  • May to August is the best time to view the falls from the footpath through a rainforest
  • During the low-water period, from September to November, the cataracts dwindle and it's possible to raft to the base of the Falls for a different perspective

So what has Victoria Falls got to offer the tourist

  1. Undisputed adventure capital of southern Africa if not the world to suit all tastes
  2. Romantic weddings and honeymoons in a tropical setting
  3. Conferences
  4. Team building incentives

Measuring Victoria Falls is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but is also the undisputed adventure capital of southern Africa. Using Livingstone or the Upper Zambezi as a base, allow at least three days to experience this natural wonder and adrenaline hotspot. First, take in the views on the Zambian side by following one of the walking routes that start near the Field Museum. The most spectacular crosses Knife Edge Bridge to a viewpoint of the Eastern Cataract. On the Zimbabwean side, reached by crossing Victoria Falls Bridge (where you clear immigration and customs), you will need to pay a fee to enter Victoria Falls NP. Walking trails lead through a rainforest
